August 23, 2019 Del Mar, CA – Twenty-eight horse/rider combinations took center stage for a special Thursday edition of the $25,000 Markel Insurance 1.45m Jumper Series during  Showpark Summer Classic. The feature event, which was held concurrently with the $2,500 Blenheim EquiSports U25 Jumper Classic, resulted in a very special teacher/student victory as Keri Potter, aboard Jiminy Cricket won the Markel while her student, Hannah Loly bested the young rider field with Ayma De La Demi Lune.

Olympic course designer Guilherme Jorge (BRA), who was lauded for his outstanding performance at the Pan American Games earlier this month, laid the track designed to welcome riders who will be competing in the 1.50m grand prix coming up on Saturday. With long galloping lines, a double and triple combination, the course required adjustability throughout.

Keri Potter aboard Jiminy Cricket were the only team that managed to negotiate a clean first round.

Jiminy Cricket, an eight year-old Warmblood, owned by Melanie Brooks of Rancho Sante Fe, has really come into his own this year after success in the West Coast Young Horse program. He and Keri were also victorious on the same field earlier this season in the $75,000 FEI Gold Tour Grand Prix at Showpark Ranch & Coast Classic.

Six other riders had only one rail, including the last to go in the order, Mauricio Ortega. He looked like he might finally force a jump-off as he carefully navigated every effort aboard his Stallion Rallie Des Etoiles San Gabriel. Ortega had the time as he approached the final jump but a collective groan told the tale as the last rail fell, resulting in four faults. As the fastest four-faulter, Michelle Kerivanan rode her horse, Duc de Rhoan, to second place.

“The course had you coming forward and backwards continuously, requiring a lot of adjustability and Jimmy is like an accordion”, said Potter following her victory. “Jimmy is one of those horses that can do everything, so lucky me, I’m riding him.”

Hanna Loly’s win in the $2,500 Blenheim EquiSports U25 Jumper Classic came after  a solid round with only six faults.

Other U25 highlights included a second and third place finish for Shawn Casady, riding for Neil Jones Equestrian Inc.

This was the tenth of thirteen qualifying events in the Markel Insurance 1.45m Jumper Series to be held throughout the Blenheim EquiSports 2019 Horse Show Season, with the Final to be held during The Las Vegas National, November 11 – 17, 2019. Currently, Nicole Haunert sits atop the series leaderboard.

Competition continues throughout the week at the Showpark Summer Classic featuring the Blenheim EquiSports $50,000 1.50m Grand Prix of Showpark and CPHA Foundation Finals.
