Announcement regarding upcoming shows and impact of EHM

Blenheim EquiSports is dedicated to the health, welfare, and safety of all equine and human exhibitors.

As many of you are aware,  the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) issued a letter to Equestrian Event Coordinators and Participants in response to the detection of Equine herpesvirus myeloencephalopathy (EHM) in several counties.

The CDFA is warning that if the spread of EHM is not controlled, it can have significant consequences to the horse industry, infecting thousands of horses due to the extensive mixing of horses at statewide, national, and international horse events.

Among many other actions, the California State Veterinarian recommends that all hunter/jumper events be postponed for the next 28 days.

Unfortunately, our Spring I Classic show falls within this window of time, and we are therefore announcing the cancellation of this show.

As we find ourselves in the middle of this uncertain and fluid situation, there is no realistic way for international teams invited to the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ USA, to commit to the logistical preparations necessary to compete in early May.  It is also only fair to ensure the athletes can plan their competition schedules, at the highest level of the sport, early and effectively.  Therefore, we are announcing with great regret, the cancellation of the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ in San Juan Capistrano.

The Blenheim team is currently working to restructure the schedules for the remaining two weeks of the Spring Classic series that, if allowed, will be held under the highest standards of biosecurity and horse health protocols.

In an effort to help expedite the statewide recovery, at no cost, we are offering to lend our temporary stalls to private barns to facilitate their isolation. Please send email inquiries to [email protected].

We will continue to be positive stewards of the sport and do whatever is necessary to help bring the spread of this outbreak to an end, all the while continuing our own facility upgrades, which will be in place upon the return of horse shows at the Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park.
