San Juan Capistrano, CA – Since its inception almost fifty years ago, the Foxfield Medal Final has been a staple of the West Coast show circuit. For the first time in its distinguished history, the Final will be held outside the gates of Foxfield Riding School – taking place this Saturday during the Blenheim Fall Tournament Horse Show on the grass of The Oaks International Grand Prix Field.
Developed by National Show Hunter Hall of Fame Inductees JoAnn Postel and Nancy Turrill, the Foxfield Medal Final provides an opportunity for Amateur riders to shine. Known for consistently testing riders’ effectiveness and elegance over a difficult course, this Medal Final served as the pinnacle of Amateur equitation for many years.
2019 SPECIFICATIONS
Open to Adult Amateur riders who are current members of the PCHA who have qualified by accumulating at least 10 points in the Foxfield Medal since the 2018 Finals. To be judged on equitation over a course of fences 3’3″ in height. The first & second round is a drawn order by qualifiers; all qualifiers will ride both rounds and ribbons 1st – 10th will be awarded at the completion of each round.
Each round will be scored by two judges that are seated apart and score will be announced after each round. Scores from both rounds will be averaged for a final score. Any rider(s) within 3 percentage points of the top score will be required to work off. If there is a work off, the judges will sit together. The top 10 scores overall will ride for awards & sashes. The winner of the Finals is ineligible to participate in any future Foxfield Medal Class.
This innovative class helped pave the way for many of the Amateur Medals we recognize today. Also known for honoring tradition and top sport, Blenheim EquiSports will maintain the exceptional spirit of the Foxfield Medal Finals by inviting all of the previous Grand Champions and the 2019 winner to center ring prior to the Markel Insurance Grand Prix for an additional awards ceremony.
